Changes

"Hook" to "bookend"

Since "hook" is an established name for another pattern, usage of it to refer to "bookend" is being phased out.


"Integral" deprecation

Many of the still lifes which were named after integrals or amphisbaenas had little to no resemblance. The majority of these have been renamed to incorporate nine or line where they apply. A claw was also very confusingly referred to as a hook, which has been rectified.

Orientations of long hooks

Hooks of a given length (as in hook with tail, not the name for the induction coil that we want phased out) can be attached to a given component in trans orientation quite early, but require a given length before cis attachment is possible. Previously, the shortest cis attachment was given no length indication, causing a hook of a given absolute length to be referred to as a different length depending on how the non-hook part was attached to it. Now, the length of the hook is always stated in the article, with the cis- and trans- prefixes coming before the length of the hook rather than after it and only for cis (i.e. the names refer to, for example, [a] [(long) hook] [with a tail] rather than [a] (long) [hook with a tail]). Compare, for example, cis-boat with tail and trans-boat with tail. Where cis is not possible, the trans prefix is simply dropped.

Orientations of long tails

Similar to the above, this concerns tails above a given length. While in this case the tails have minor structural differences, these are mostly ignored as the rest of the tail has effectively identical structural discrepancy as to what is stated above.

Distinguishing sides of the line

In cases where two still lifes or small components are connected by a three-cell line, moves have been made to indicate whether they can occupy the same side of the line. If so, there now exists a "cis-line" page for the resulting induction coil, and the existing pages have been moved to "trans-line" accordingly.

Identical induction coil pairs

To reduce redundancy, "x and x" or "Bi-x" induction coils have been moved to "Mirrored x" for mirror-symmetric pairs, and "Rotated x" for rotationally-symmetric pairs.

In addition, less-symmetric pairs have also been renamed as to be more consistent with the standard terminology (according to what is said on Professor).

R-deprecation

This is a more personal change than anything, but is intended to bring induction coil sets to be more in line with the "hook to bookend" change.

Other changes

These changes are miscellaneous and do not fit in any of the above categories.

Pattern ID changes

Not necessarily page moves (in many of these cases, the pages were moved years ago), but things that the auto-uploader will need to pay attention to as the associated templates have been modified.

New pages

In the process of these edits, new pages have also been created for patterns that did not previously have pages. A list of all such pages is below.

It should be noted that a large amount of the moves made above were done with the intent of allowing the following pattern pages to be created without needing to move them immediately after being created as to adapt to the new system. As such, if a decision is made to revert a large amount of the above moves (not recommended), the following new pages should be moved as well.

Disambiguation pages

As a result of these changes, there are now more disambiguation pages on the wiki to assist with distinguishing of similarly-named patterns. Some pages are new, others are made from recycled redirects.

Dead links

A large amount of this renaming was done without leaving behind redirects as to not create a giant mess with redirect chains. Some redirects were also rewritten with moves, resulting in their deletion. Only some redirects have been remade so far since not everything is done, meaning that the following terms are now redlinks. As much effort as possible has been made to fix links to these names within the wiki, and as such any damage is limited to external sites such as Catagolue and the Life Lexicon.

As this series of moves has been done with the intent of cleaning up names, it would be preferable to remake as few of these as possible, and fixing the sites that point to them is the preferable option as to incentivise adoption of the fixed names.

Note that this list does not include page names which were "repurposed" for something else.
