Quadpole tie ship is a period-2 oscillator.

As its name implies, it involves a ship having been tied to a quadpole.

Occurrence

See also: List of common oscillators

Quadpole tie ship is the about the thirteenth most common naturally-occurring oscillator in Achim Flammenkamp's census, being less common than the mold but more common than tripole.[1] It is the thirteenth most common oscillator on Adam P. Goucher's Catagolue.

The most common way by far for a quadpole to form is from a century predecessor hitting a ship. When this reaction occurs with a ship-tie, it creates a quadpole tie ship.

Construction

A 6-glider synthesis for this oscillator was found in July 2020.[2] A 5-glider synthesis was found by Carson Cheng in March 2023.[3][4]
