Meta-dock and long bookend is a 18-cell strict still life consisting of a long bookend and a dock stabilising each other. It is one of three ways in which a long bookend and a dock can be arranged to create a still life.

This specific isomer is named meta due to the two inducting faces not being skewed from each other.

Meta-dock and long bookend is the 123rd most common still life on Adam P. Goucher's Catagolue, being less common than boat with hooked tail but more common than pond bridge wing. Among all still lifes with 18 cells, it is the 5th most common, being less common than rotated house but more common than block on bun tie bun.[1]

Meta-dock and long bookend typically forms via an active region hitting a loaf; the active region becomes a specific nonomino in five generations but can be one of many predecessors at the time it hits the loaf. Not all occurrences of this nonomino go through the correct predecessor to hit the loaf at the correct time.
