The Snark64 is a colour-preserving 90° stable glider reflector discovered by Carson Cheng on December 17, 2023.[1] It is named after the Snark, another colour-preserving 90° stable glider reflector. 64 is the repeat time of the Snark64, and also a reference to "64" being frequently used in names for computer hardware and software, e.g., the Commodore 64 and Nintendo 64.

Snark64 is made up of a fishhook, chucklebait, two blocks, an eater bridge eater, and a cis-down ship on cis-carrier siamese bookend. It is useful for synchronization problems, since it has a different output parity: a Snark64 delivers its glider 19 ticks faster than a Snark.

If a colour-changing reflector is needed, a Bandersnatch can be added to any colour-preserving reflector, or a periodic bouncer can be used.

While the repeat time is 64, a continuous period-60 or 61 stream triples the period to 180 or 183 respectively, while a continuous period-49 stream quadruples the period to 196.

As a catalyst

The Snark64 can be used as a catalyst if an active region turns a beehive into a honey farm (and extracting a glider from the reaction as a process), allowing for more guns and object-to-glider converters. As a catalyst, it has a lower repeat time than usual.

In other rules

When transition S6e is added, one cell at generation 16 survives by this transition, but does not affect the reaction otherwise.

With the transition S4z, the stator can be reduced by replacing a 6-cell snake with a 5-cell z-pentomino, which is stable in this rule.
