Gallus is a period-98 oscillator , being the smallest example of a relay construction using 34P14 shuttles allowing all oscillators of periods 98 + 56n to be constructed with 105 cells. It was found by Jeremy Tan on July 16, 2021 ,[ 1] and synthesized with 50 gliders on September 5.[ 2] On October 3, Matti Ward reduced the synthesis to 45 gliders .[ 3] On October 30, 2024 , KtT lowered the cost to 42 gliders .[ 4] [ 5]
It may also be stabilised with the 34P7 on either end, for a smaller bounding box[ n 1] but the same number of cells.[ 6] This also allows it to be continued to n = −1 , for a period-42 oscillator (Catagolue : here ).

Notes
↑ The 34P14 version is x(n)*y(n) , where x(n)=39+7*n and y(n)=(25 if n=0 else 23+7*n) , for a bounding box of a(n)=(975 if n=0 else 49*n2 +434*n+897) , whereas the 34P7 version has x(n)=35+7*n and y(n)=(34 if n=-1 else 27 if n=0 else 25+7*n) so a(n)=(952 if n=-1 else 945 if n=0 else 49*n2 +420*n+875)
