A self-inductor is a pattern divisible in two or more components, whose only interaction is to suppress the birth of new cells along their common border. Such a pattern will possibly, but not necessarily, have a reflection axis running along the seamline. A straight seamline is known as a gutter. However, a self-inductor may also have other forms of a seamline, as in sidewalk.
Typically a half of a self-inductor can also be stabilized by wall cells.
A related concept may be a self-sparker: this is a pattern divisible in (symmetric) parts separated by two cells, which may contact, but with all cells at points of contact instantly dying. Examples include spark coil, sombreros and 70P5H2V0.
