Talk:Teardrop with claw

The 4×4 teardrop grandparent seen here is a common enough stabilizable lively pattern appearing in still lifes and currently generally just called "teardrop" in still life nomenclature, it seems. However as also canonical teardrop is lively and can appear in still lifes, the grandparent would probably deserve a distinct name. My old idea, not particularly widely broadcast/proposed, for a distinct name was helmet. The following provides an example of a helmet / teardrop "near-minimal pair":

x = 25, y = 8, rule = B3/S23

4bo2bobob3o$2b2o2bo9b2o2bo$3bo3b3o7bo3b3o$2bo6bo6bo6bo$2b2o12b2o!

There seems to have been earlier discussion here on a term 'egg' being applied to this still life, which may or may not have involved this same concept. --Tropylium (talk) 13:34, 24 August 2026 (UTC)
