Crystallization and decay oscillator is a period-2700 oscillator discovered by Dean Hickerson on March 27, 1990.[1][2] It makes use of a common crystal formed by sufficiently high-period glider streams colliding with honey farms, which form and destroy a crystal of dual beehives in a periodic fashion. By moving the pentadecathlons and the p150 glider gun, any period of the form 750 + 1950n (n ≥ 0) can be obtained.

Jeremy Tan found a 34-glider synthesis for this oscillator on January 7, 2020.[3] MathAndCode reduced this to 29 gliders in December of that year,[4] and then to 26 gliders in August 2021.[5]

In February 2021, Sphenocorona found a series of "period-multiplying eaters" which can be used to construct crystallization-and-decay oscillators using any sufficient glider stream.[6]
