86P118 is a period-118 oscillator discovered by Period1GliderGun on July 25, 2024 .[ 1] The partially completed engine for this oscillator was found by iNoMed . In terms of its population of 86 cells , it is the smallest known oscillator of this period. It consists of 2 eater 5s , 2 toads , 2 tubs , 2 beehives and 2 clocks hassling 2 centuries .
A 46-glider synthesis was found by Chris857 on the same day it was discovered.[ 2] The cost was lowered to 43 gliders by KtT on August 13, 2024 ,[ 3] [ 4] and further lowered to 37 gliders on March 19, 2025 .[ 5] [ 6]
As a sparker
As the only engine-based p118, 86P118 is useful for creating oscillators with periods that are a multiple of 118.
