A period-23 pi-heptomino hassler was discovered by Nora Brown on November 4, 2022. It is the fourth unique period-23 oscillator to be discovered. With only 70 cells in its minimum phase it was briefly the smallest known oscillator of its period. Two days later, the even smaller 55P23 was discovered, also by Brown.

A 42-glider synthesis for this oscillator was found on the day of its discovery, quickly followed by a reduction to 40 gliders. On June 30, 2023, the cost was reduced to 38 gliders. On December 24, 2023, the cost was lowered to 34 gliders.

Another period-23 pi-heptomino hassler with a completely different engine mechanism (112P23) was discovered on April 19, 2023, also by Nora Brown.
