50P9 is a period-9 oscillator and domino sparker found by Matthias Merzenich in August 2014.[1]

On November 15, 2020, Aleph discovered 104P9, a higher-clearance sparker which consists of a partial p9 oscillator supported by 50P9.[2] Oscillators of periods 18,[3] 27,[4] and 63[5] that use 50P9 as a sparker are also known, and the period-117 glider gun and the former smallest period-36 glider gun use 50P9 as well.

On October 22, 2021, MathAndCode discovered that 50P9 can be phase shifted, producing an oscillator with period 9n-1.[6]

On December 11, 2015, Bullet51 posted a starting point for a 50P9 glider synthesis.[9] On June 17, 2016, Martin Grant reported a few oscillator syntheses, including one for 50P9 based on Bullet51's final step.[10]
