14P2.1, 14-bit P2 #1[1] (apgcode xp2_3lgh1lo) is a small, unnamed period-2 oscillator.
One name proposed for this pattern is "wishing well".[2]
Construction
A 13-glider synthesis for this oscillator was found by Chris Cain on April 21, 2015.[3] On September 15, 2016, Martin Grant found a 4-glider component that converts a long snake to this oscillator, reducing the cost to 8 gliders.[4] On January 28, 2023, Chris857 found an (invalid) 8G_C2_1_stdin result of four gliders colliding with 2 beehives for a 7-glider synthesis.[5] Carson Cheng reduced the number of gliders to six on May 21, 2024. An earlier 28-glider synthesis can be found in Mark Niemiec's database.[6]
