Welcome to the LifeWiki! If you like that patchy-checkerboard-making rule ( B2-ae3ain/S012c3c4 ) you might be interested in exploring other rules that share that kind of behavior -- i.e., rules that tend to create stable checkerboard regions separated by surprisingly organic-looking "rivers".
