Stopbox is a 3-state cellular automaton operating in range-1 2D Moore neighborhood.
Still lifes
The most common still life has 9 cells in population, dubbed as "dot" due to being evolved from a single state 1 cell. However there are a smaller still life which have 5 cells. Dots are usable as versatile catalysts, or combined with other still lifes into more catalysts.
Oscillators
Oscillators of period 2 to 40 had been found in symmetric soups from nbsearch2a. Spaceship loops with period of 13 and above exist, proving the rule omniperiodic.
Spaceships
The smallest spaceship is the 8-cell "box", moving at speed of c/2 orthogonal. The only known (and all known natural spaceships) spaceships are constructed from boxes. Boxes may cease to move if colliding with another pattern, therefore the rule is named Stopbox.
Boxes could been used to construct other patterns via a way similar to glider synthesis.
Guns
The most common guns have period 9, but other gun periods could be constructed using spaceship reflectors.
Rakes
Rakes made of boxes are very common, the simplest among them being made of 2 boxes, puffing 2 boxes every period.
Puffers
The only known puffers are made of rakes, puffing patterns (mostly dots) via box synthesis.
Wickstretcher
Wickstretchers could been constructed in the similar manner as puffers.
Turing completeness
Stopbox have numerous logic gates, splitters, reflectors and eaters. However a Turing complete pattern is yet to been constructed.
Flesh
Notably, soups evolve into a class of patterns dubbed "flesh", capable to expand infinitely with help of rakes, but won't expand otherwise.
