Talk:Herschel receiver
The term "Herschel receiver" is now being used to refer to any stable pattern the can convert a tandem glider pair into a Herschel, not just this particular one. Should this page be updated to reflect the new usage? --Kazyan (talk) 18:24, 6 June 2015 (UTC)
Similarity between four related mechanisms
Part of the evolutionary sequences in glider stopper, Herschel receiver, boojum reflector and rectifier match well, up to the emission of 180-degree glider:

I have removed the citation needed tag. Is there anything unsatisfactory for description of the apparent resemblance now? GUYTU6J (talk) 02:59, 2 August 2022 (UTC)
Why is "the bait block and two eaters are the basis of glider stopper, boojum reflector and rectifier" still regarded as an unsubstantiated claim? What material should be added to make it substantiated? GUYTU6J (talk) 15:26, 2 August 2022 (UTC)
- Given that you initially asked about "description of the apparent resemblance", I changed the claim accordingly -- to avoid making a non-obvious unsubstantiated claim in the first place. If you want to include in the article a claim about something deeper than a similarity (such as claiming that these still lives are "the basis of" these patterns), then I think you need to provide references with a more detailed explanation of exactly what that claim would mean and exactly why it is indeed true. - I think you should ask on the forum, for example in dedicated thread ( https://conwaylife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=4009 ). Talk pages are for discussing content and possible improvements to the articles, rather than for discussing the subject itself. Confocal (talk) 10:11, 3 September 2023 (UTC)
