Name
I believe "Herschel" should be capitalized as I have only ever seen it that way. FractalFusion 05:34, 25 March 2009 (UTC)
- Good call, I've made the change. While we're on the subject, does anyone know who the Herschel is named after? It'd be a nice tidbit to add to this page. Nathaniel 11:37, 25 March 2009 (UTC)
- Here is another useful site: [[1]]. I know it is named after the astronomer William Herschel, but I don't know why. That site says that it is because the Herschel looks like the symbol for Uranus; however it looks more like Saturn or Jupiter symbol. [[2]]. On the subject of capitalization, if Life Lexicon capitalizes a name of a pattern, then it seems logical that it should be capitalized here. FractalFusion 00:32, 26 March 2009 (UTC)
I'm very confused with the shape and alias of Herschel.
Why them don't call Herschel "H-heptomino"? --LittleLWSS(talk)/My patterns/ 2024年8月11日 18:15(日)农历七月初八(CHN)

- Pretty much for the same reason that we don't call a block a "square tetromino". "Block" is traditional, and much shorter, and we talk about blocks a lot, so it's good to have a short common name for it. We also talk about Herschels a lot, and nobody wants to type "H-heptomino" every time they're discussing Herschels. Dvgrn (talk) 12:56, 12 August 2024 (UTC)
- H-heptomino is a distinct heptomino that already exists. If you need to use the term "heptomino", it is also named the D-heptomino or J-heptomino, the latter I prefer. Haycat2009 (talk) 10:03, 13 August 2024 (UTC)
