I don't think that the Generations rule string contains the letter "C".
Generations rules are in the format Bnnn/Snnn/n and not Bnnn/Snnn/Cn. Neither Golly nor LifeViewer support the latter. Chris Rowett (talk) 11:35, 15 September 2017 (UTC)
- The "C" notation has been used on the forums several times, mostly by Extremeenthusiast, but also by Brian Prentice, flipper77, and EricG; to wit:
- B2/S0/C4 (another multiple-state rule)
- B2/S2/C20
- B2/S235/C4
- B2/S3467/C4
- B2/S3567/C3
- B25/S03467/C6 Oscillators
- B26/S345/C5
- B278/S3456/C6
- B3/S124/C3
- B3/S235/C3
- B34/S2345/C3
- B345/S23/C4
- B34567/S24567/C6
- 9:43 at Knight rule (B34578/S237/C4)
- B357/S23568/C4
- B36/S24567/C3
- B367/S345/C3
- B3678/S235678/C3
- "Lines" Rule (B458/S012345/C3)
- With the exception of the "B25/S03467/C6 Oscillators" thread, these are all from around 2010-2011. So perhaps this notation simply never caught on widely?
- These are just thread titles, BTW; the same notation may well also have been used within posts, at other times and/or by other people. Apple Bottom (talk) 11:17, 15 September 2017 (UTC)
- OK but I think it's confusing to promote a rule string format that isn't supported by the tools. Chris Rowett (talk) 11:35, 15 September 2017 (UTC)
- Fair enough, I'll edit the article to use Bx/Sy/z instead. Apple Bottom (talk) 11:47, 15 September 2017 (UTC)
