32P20H10V0 (or sidewinder as named by Jeremy Tan[1][note 1]) is a glide-symmetric c/2 orthogonal spaceship with period 20 found by Jason Summers on April 8, 2006.[2][3] It is currently the period-20 spaceship with the lowest known population.

This spaceship is a puffer 2 whose output is suppressed by a glider, resulting in the glider being effectively dragged along at a speed of c/2, twice its usual speed. Due to the fact that the puffer engine does not modify the evolution of the supporting spaceships in any way, it can be classified as a true tagalong.

Variants

The central puffer engine requires dot sparks in order to continue moving. The standard sidewinder uses sparks from two lightweight spaceships, however one or both can be provided by the upper, more distant spark of a middleweight spaceship instead.

Glider synthesis

An 11-glider synthesis of the dual-LWSS version of this spaceship was found by Summers in October 2007.[4] It was later reduced to 10 gliders by replacing a 4-glider LWSS edge-shooter with one of the 3-glider recipes that fits.
