A shifter is a component or mechanism that can change the lane and/or timing of a spaceship, without changing its direction.
Examples of known reusable shifters (also known as "0-degree reflectors") are glider pusher, Bandersnatch and a stable 8-lane glider shifter.
An example of an one-time shifter is an aircraft carrier.
