Quasar is a period-3 oscillator that was found by Robert Wainwright in August 1971,[1][2] and is just the second smallest of an extensible series of p3 oscillators (first being the pulsar) built using pulsar quadrants which are shifted with respect to each other.

The components making up quasars and their relatives do not necessarily need four symmetrical parts stabilising each other. The following is a sample stabilised wick with one 90-degree turn, and above it the smallest version of this wick (which is a 36P3).

The quasar first appeared semi-naturally in April 2015.[3]
