Overweight emulator is an otherwise unstable pattern that can be turned into a period-4 oscillator. Shown to the right is a stabilisation using blinkers making direct contact with the oscillating segment; other stabilisations involve a correctly phased blinker or a still life with a 1 cell tip such as tub or beehive being used as an induction coil (one cell farther away from the oscillator than the stabilization shown at right). The blinkers can also be replaced with T-nosed p4 or pairs of blinkers.

It was found by Robert Wainwright.[1]

A twofold variant with long hats of this oscillator appeared in a symmetric soup found by Charity Engine on February 14, 2022,[2] then a lower-population one with long beehives on 2022-05-06. The T-nosed variant occurred symmetrically with long beehives on 2022-12-06, but not yet with long hats, and the blinker pair variant has occurred with long hats on 2022-10-28, but not yet with long beehives.
