Open cuphook is a period-3 oscillator, and one of thirty-nine with 18 cells. It shares its small, common 3-cell rotor with other oscillators in the cuphook family.
Occurrence
- Main article: List of common oscillators
Open cuphook is the second most common 18-cell period-3 oscillator. It is much more common than either of the "conventional" cuphooks (cis-block on cuphook and trans-block on cuphook), despite all three of these oscillators having 18 cells.
Glider synthesis
All strict still lifes with a population of 23 or fewer cells, all oscillators with 16 or fewer cells, and all spaceships with 35 or fewer cells are known to be glider-constructible. A glider synthesis of this object can be found in the infobox to the right.
All period-3 oscillators up to at least 18 cells have a known synthesis.
