re: edit summary
re: edit summary: the linked forum post discusses wording in tlife specifically and does not cover this page. More importantly, the linked post contains several misleading statements (assertion that "a consensus has been reached" while there is no general agreement as evidenced by quotes I collected in that discussion; assertion that the post is "a moderator decision" while the author of the post was directly involved in the issue from the start and consequently could not remain neutral on that issue).
Regarding wording in HighFlock: the bracketed digits in 'B3(45678)/S12(678)' are conditions, not transitions. E.g. 5 is a birth condition. Writing 'transitions' is incorrect here. Confocal (talk) 16:01, 10 December 2023 (UTC)
- Me, dvgrn, Haycat2009, galoomba, and azulavoir all disagree with you. I would call that consensus. HotdogPi (talk) 16:34, 10 December 2023 (UTC)
- That amounts to ignoring quotes where different people chose to use the word 'condition' in relevant contexts. Just because those people do not participate in the discussion does not mean they do not have an opinion on this, or that the quotes can be somehow ignored or dismissed. - Can we stop fighting over such a minor issue? There is already a consensus, and this is trivial. I think that this is just petty disagreement. Me, dvgrn, HotdogPi, galoomba, and azulavoir all disagree with you. So be it! Haycat2009 (talk) 03:05, 11 December 2023 (UTC)
- Further, the quotes I collected already show that the two words are used in certain relevant contexts, and have distinct meanings in those contexts.
A condition explains when some event happens with a cell. For example, 'B6' or 'birth on 6 alive neighbours' or '2 alive neighbours opposite each other' etc.
A transition is simply the event (birth, survival, etc.)

- Lies. Transition is the condition applied to practice, conditions are basically instructions.
