Ship is an isotropic non-totalistic cellular automaton originally devised by Paul Callahan in the year 1994 while investigating alternative rulesets with HighLife's replicator. Ship is a modification of the normal life rule where cells are born in the configuration to the left, which resembles a ship, giving the rule its name. Ship can be represented in modern Hensel notation as B36n/S23.
Patterns
Despite most evolutionary sequences becoming short-lived sparks in this rule, many stable patterns from life still function normally.
Oscillators
Oscillator periods in common with Life include 1, 2, 3 and 15, and oscillator periods in common with HighLife but not life include 20.
