Conway's Game of Life: Mathematics and Construction is a textbook about the Game of Life by Nathaniel Johnston and Dave Greene published in 2022. This book provides an introduction to Conway's Game of Life, the mathematics behind it, and the methods used to construct many of its most interesting patterns.
Game of Life Cellular Automata is a book of articles about Conway's Game of Life and other cellular automata that was compiled by Andrew Adamatzky and published in 2010. It is split into eight sections: "Historical", "Classical Topics", "Asynchronous, Continuous and Memory-Enriched Automata", "Non-orthogonal Lattices", "Complexity", "Physics", "Music", and "Computation".

It also outlines the proof of the existence of a universal constructor in Life, which was first presented in Winning Ways for Your Mathematical Plays.
Turing Machine Universality of the Game of Life was written by Paul Rendell and published in 2015. This book presents a proof of universal computation in the Game of Life by using a Turing machine constructed in Life by the author.
Wheels, Life, and Other Mathematical Amusements is a book written by Martin Gardner in 1983 that collects material from his column in Scientific American. The last three chapters contain all of his writings on Conway's Game of Life.
Winning Ways for Your Mathematical Plays was written by Elwyn Berlekamp, John Conway and Richard K. Guy about mathematical games, primarily the field of combinatorial game theory. The last chapter of the final volume concerns Conway's Game of Life and outlines a proof of the existence of a universal constructor. Originally published in 1982 in two volumes, it was republished in 2001 with its content split over four volumes.
