The Leaf bug is a 31c/240 orthogonal spaceship that was constructed on December 27, 2024 by Gustone in a 76069-cell form,[1] and reduced to 75961 cells the next day.[2] At this size, it can be considered the second smallest notable spaceship of this speed, surpassing the Silverfish and behind only mannaz and the water strider, although these spaceships have several variations due to repeated reductions. It was later modified and improved on to create Leaf bug 2, making this no longer the second smallest notable spaceship of this speed. A comparison with leaf bug 2 can be seen below:
