Jon Bennett is a computer scientist who developed Xlife, a freeware Life simulation program that runs under the X Window System and was originally written for Unix workstations in the late 1980s at Carnegie Mellon University. It was one of the first such programs to be able to handle large patterns on relatively modest computers.
