Jagged lines is a pattern constructed by Dean Hickerson in May 2005 that uses puffers to produce a line of bi-blocks that weaves back and forth in a complicated way.
In 2019, Dean Hickerson discovered that modifications to this pattern could create the variant patterns he dubbed mountain ranges. The size, slope, and composition of the "mountains" is highly variable and depends on the relative positions and phases of the rakes used to initiate the pattern.[1]
The first bi-block produced lies on the initial pattern's line of symmetry (when the pre-block is excluded). After an initial period of irregularity, it stabilises, and another bi-block on this line of symmetry is produced on generation 11*4n+4224*(-1)n-4187, for all integer n≥6, followed by one more within the next 8160 generations for n=6 and three more thereafter.
