Corderisation

The term "corderisation" refers to stabilising a dirty puffer reaction, solely by using multiple copies of the reaction in different positions and phases.[1] The base reaction may be ultimately unstable on its own (like Corderman's switch engine), or it may be a working puffer on its own (for example, the pufferfish spaceship may be viewed as a corderisation of the pufferfish-based p36 block puffer).[1][2]
Spaceships that can be obtained by corderising an active reaction are a proper subcategory of engineered spaceships.[1][2]
However, the term Cordership refers specifically to a spaceship that is based on Life's switch engines. Corderships necessarily move diagonally with speed c/12 and have period that is a multiple of 96. Corderships are named after Charles Corderman, who discovered the switch engine in 1971.[3]
