Corderisation

The term "corderisation" refers to stabilising a dirty puffer reaction, solely by using multiple copies of the reaction in different positions and phases. The base reaction may be ultimately unstable on its own (like Corderman's switch engine), or it may be a working puffer on its own (for example, the pufferfish spaceship may be viewed as a corderisation of the pufferfish-based p36 block puffer).

Spaceships that can be obtained by corderising an active reaction are a proper subcategory of engineered spaceships.

However, the term Cordership refers specifically to a spaceship that is based on Life's switch engines. Corderships necessarily move diagonally with speed c/12 and have period that is a multiple of 96. Corderships are named after Charles Corderman, who discovered the switch engine in 1971.
