Chapman-Greene construction arm

The Chapman-Greene Construction Arm is a programmable construction arm built in May 2004 by Paul Chapman and Dave Greene.

In May 2022, Adam P. Goucher rebuilt the Chapman-Greene Construction Arm using up-to-date spartan technology; the resulting construction arm is known as the Goucher-Grankovskiy construction arm.

Method

Signals prompt the universal constructor to pull the construction arm's elbow closer, push it farther away, or shoot a glider of either color sideways from the elbow's current position. The choice of operations--PUSH, PULL, the two FIRE recipes, or a SHUT DOWN signal--is made by reading a static tape where one to five 1's (boats) are stored in unary, separated by zeroes (blocks).
