Canada Grey is a c/2 orthogonalgreyship, named for its synthesis by Goldtiger997 on Canada Day 2021. It was the first greyship to be synthesized, at a total of 753 gliders.[1][2] It is also the first greyship in an unbounded series of increasingly large ships, all of which can be synthesised with the same basic toolkit.[3] The original recipe for the next greyship in the series contained well over 1,300 gliders,[3] which has since been reduced considerably.[4] On October 13, Goldtiger997 published a script which automatically synthesizes an arbitrarily-large greyship based on this, with the total glider cost increasing roughly quadratically.[5]
In December 2024vilc completed a synthesis of several smaller relatives of Canada Grey.[6] The smallest of these has since been reduced to a cost of less than 250 gliders. These are not part of the unbounded series mentioned above, because they use a different toolkit of synthesis components, and there is currently no documented mechanism for building increasingly larger spaceships using just that set of components.
