72P119 is the smallest known period-119 oscillator, discovered by Mitchell Riley on April 1, 2023.[1]
A 24-glider synthesis for this oscillator was found by Carson Cheng,[2] and reduced to 22 gliders by Entity Valkyrie 2 on the same day with a slightly different block placement (Catagolue: here).[3][4]
The two pi-heptominoes that are hassled in this oscillator are arranged in the same way as in the p44 pi-heptomino hassler, and an intermediate pentadecathlon forms in the middle.
The spark that forms from the honey farm hitting a block can rephase a blinker. If a blinker is placed here, it can support another p119 that uses a non-rephasing transparent blinker; by 72P119 rephasing the blinker once per cycle, it can survive.[5]
