58P8H4V0 is a period-8 c/2 orthogonal spaceship found by Charity Engine on February 24, 2022, using apgsearch.[1][2] It is the first period-8 spaceship to occur semi-naturally (i.e. in a symmetric random soup).

Glider synthesis

A 53-glider synthesis for the spaceship was found the next day by Goldtiger997 and Mark Niemiec.[3][c 1]

A 51-glider synthesis was found in May 2022 by reducing the first two stages[c 2] from 8 to 6 gliders,[c 3] quickly followed with a 50-glider synthesis by reducing third stage[c 4] from 5 to 4 gliders.[c 5]

A 47-glider synthesis was found in July 2022 by replacing the first four stages[c 6] with an 11-glider recipe.[c 7]

A 29-glider soup-based synthesis was found by KtT on December 10, 2024,[4][5] and reduced to 25 gliders the same day by vilc.[6][7]
