52P84 is a period-84 oscillator found by Jason Summers on June 17, 2007.[1] It has two unices on the ends for stabilization. It was formerly the smallest known p84 oscillator in terms of population, until the discovery of the p84 honey farm hassler in 2022.
A 51-glider synthesis of this oscillator was found in February 2018 by Matti Ward, Mark Niemiec, BlinkerSpawn, and praosylen.[2] In June 2022, Carson Cheng found a synthesis with only 22 gliders, for both possible relative orientations of the unices.[3][4] A 21-glider synthesis was found by KtT on November 17, 2023.[5][6]
