A partial glider synthesis for this spaceship was posted by Goldtiger997 on April 9, 2020, with the final step and most of the base still life construction completed.[2] The synthesis was completed with 189 gliders the next day.[3] Several minor improvements, reducing the synthesis to 182 gliders, were posted by Mark Niemiec on June 6.[4] On August 3, BlinkerSpawn and Tanner Jacobi found a 37-glider synthesis using a different base.[5]
Backrake
31P8H4V0 continues operating if the block it produces is destroyed by other objects before itself, so acts as a moving factory.
On February 2, 2025, Caleb R. Hilton found a p16 backrake using this property, which is four cells thinner than the known one based on the Coe ship.[6]
