34 was the third to last oscillator period to be found, but the first non-trivial p34 oscillator, 74P34, was found only slightly more than two months earlier on July 6 of the same year. Both p34 oscillators have multiple similarities: they are both pi-heptomino hasslers with 180° symmetry found using symmetric CatForce.
Chris857 found an 89-glidersynthesis of this oscillator using a cheaper eater 3 variant on September 29, 2022,[2] which was later reduced to 71 gliders. On February 13, 2024, KtT lowered the cost of this synthesis to 70 gliders and completed a 95-glider synthesis of the canonical form.[3][4] On May 25, 2024, Chris857 lowered the cost of the canonical form to 91 gliders.[5][6] On May 24, 2025, KtT lowered the costs of the two forms to 67 and 90 gliders.[7][8] On June 12, 2025, KtT lowered the cost of 120P34 to 89 gliders.[9][10]
