In slow salvo synthesis, a splitter is a constellation that can be hit by a spaceship (usually a glider) to produce two or more output spaceships.

In 2014 Michael Simkin collected a total of 280 one-time splitters that fit in a bounding box of 10×10.[1]

A more recent survey of pairs of common still lifes fitting inside a 12×12 bounding box produced a somewhat different list of splitters, with considerable overlap.[2]

The term 'splitter' is also sometimes used for stable signal circuits that produce two or more output signals for one input signal. An example can be seen in the stable reflector article. An alternate term for reusable circuitry with this behavior is 'fanout', or 'fanout device'.
