Replicator thread

Post by Aleph »

I remember there being a thread for replicators in general, but I can't find it, so I've created it. My goal with this thread is to have a general collection point for replicators, instead of them being scattered across MDIOCA. Replicators have shown themselves to be the starting points of many interesting patterns, so I think a thread is justified.

Other threads about replicators. None of these seem to be a "replicators in general" thread.

viewtopic.php?f=11&t=6421&p=180995 (Strong pascal mod 3 replicators)
viewtopic.php?f=11&t=6400&p=180008 (Clean 2D replicators)
viewtopic.php?f=11&t=5559&p=141299 (Parity replicator collection)
viewtopic.php?f=11&t=5529&p=140157 (Adjustable-speed replicators)
viewtopic.php?f=11&t=5245&p=129821 (Classifying replicators)
viewtopic.php?f=11&t=3752&p=68178 (Rules with interesting replicators)
viewtopic.php?f=11&t=3580&p=65242 (2D replicator classification)
viewtopic.php?f=12&t=6675&p=198865 (Fractal thread since lots of fractals come from replicators)

Other attempts at "general replicator threads":
viewtopic.php?p=153774
viewtopic.php?p=123679
viewtopic.php?p=155356#p155356

EDIT 5: If a replicator falls into a more interesting category, I would recommend posting it in that thread instead of this one.
Edit 6: Added another thread.

This is sensitive to all gutter-breaking birth transitions, so unusual habits are going to be much harder to get from this one.

Can you explain the intended meaning of this part?

My bad: I wasn't clear before. I meant that the original failed replicator (7c/41) didn't work at all if I flipped any of B0, B2c, B2i, B4c, and B6i. Since unusual replication habits usually require a copy of the replicator to be formed in the center after the next cycle after this point in time, this would require breaking the gutter.

I just wanted to point out existence of other threads that might be usefully linked from the first post (which could also benefit from having the names of threads written explicitly, instead of just listing bare URLs).
A reader should not be forced to click the link to get an idea of where it leads to.

Also I'm familiar with some history, and in general following one forum rule does not make a good excuse to break another forum rule.
Posting in a known existing thread on the same topic is better than creating a duplicate thread.

Some sort of a failed replicator (two copies can be observed 18 ticks later), several orthogonal c/1 moving objects (including factorial spaceship and a p12 puffer), an unnamed p1 diagonal c/1 spaceship and the p4 diagonal c/4 glider:

This may or may not count as "tame", but might be interesting enough to be posted.
  • A failed replicator (duoplet settling into a p8 constellation with minimum population = 176 alive cells)
  • Two orthogonal c/1 spaceships (p1 and p2); it's worth noting however that the cellular automaton uses a range-3 neighbourhood and c/1 is no longer the maximum speed of propagation of effects, hence these spaceships aren't photons
  • The three objects given in the quoted post, the Z-pentomino still-life, the LWSS, the MWSS, the HWSS
  • edit: as an illustration, added a fuse that can burn to propagate consequences across the universe faster than c/1 orthogonal

Replicator made of spaceship that spews spaceships:

Code: Select all

x = 11, y = 11, rule = B2eik3aijy4i5jkn6ai7c/S1c2cek3n4c5ae

Oddly enough, it becomes the "MOS" phase every two generations of replication.
