Harold V. McIntosh was a mathematical physicist whose wide-ranging interests included cellular automata and the application of computers to the study of such. He was an early advocate of the use of microcomputers to explore Life.
He contributed the three historical articles that begin Game of Life Cellular Automata: Conway's Life, Life's Still Lifes (PDF) and A Zoo of Life Forms (PDF). He also coined the term spacefiller.
