Neat! So, this clearly brings up a new consideration - with this new and amazing power, should we add some animated images to methuselahs? (not to mention sawtooths and everything else that moves) Elithrion 21:58, 9 March 2009 (UTC)

My only reservation with doing them for methuselahs (and similar patterns, I suppose) is that generally they go on for a LONG time. This GIF of brain, for example, is 15 frames and is 43kb (if memory serves). Methuselah animated GIFs would have to have thousands of frames to be useful, which would make for ghastly file sizes. Well, I had more in mind something like "this is how a methuselah starts exploding" (say, first 200 generations), since they often take on something of their final shape rather quickly. But also, you seem to be using fairly low compression here - I'm sure that could be fixed in a few minutes in an external program. My p144 gif is only 164kb, for example. Aaand I just tried passing it through Flash and I got it down to 18kb without any substantial loss of quality (and the process only took a few seconds). Elithrion 04:08, 10 March 2009 (UTC)

Ah ok, I like that idea just fine then. As for the compression - I had actually loaded the brain animated GIF into my own compressor (Jasc Animation Studio) and "compressed" it, reducing its filesize by a whopping 2kb, so I assumed it wasn't a big deal. Apparently Jasc doesn't do a very good job at compressing either though, so I've now downloaded a new compressor. Thanks for the heads-up. Nathaniel 20:54, 10 March 2009 (UTC)
