28P7.2 is an unnamed period-7 oscillator discovered by Dean Hickerson in 1998. In terms of its 28 cells, it is tied with oscillators burloaferimeter, 28P7.1, and 28P7.3 as the smallest known period 7 oscillator.[1] In September, 2000 Mark Niemiec and Jason Summers found a 22-glider synthesis of this oscillator.[2]
A stator variant of this oscillator appeared semi-naturally on October 28, 2018, in a symmetric soup submitted to Catagolue by carybe,[3] and the canonical variant first appeared on August 12, 2022, in a symmetric soup by the Open Science Grid.[4]
