Brain is a c/3 orthogonal spaceship found by David Bell in May 1992. It provides a weak spark at its back which can sometimes be used to perturb objects, such as a glider.

Construction

A 99-glider synthesis of Brain was found by Goldtiger997 in November 2022,[1] solving a long-standing open problem.[2] A period-690 gun with bounding box 910 × 875 was assembled by Entity Valkyrie in September 2023, using the 99-glider synthesis.[3]

On July 25, 2024, KtT lowered the cost to 97 gliders,[4][5] with a further reduction by Chris857 on July 28, 2024, to 96 gliders.[6][7]
