66P106 is the smallest known period-106 oscillator.

The original form, 115P106, was discovered by Nora Brown on October 1, 2022.[1] In the oscillator, an unnamed reaction is hassled by two traffic stops, two traffic light eaters that are present in AK94, and four eater 1s. With minimum population 115 cells, it became the smallest known period-106 oscillator, beating the record previously held by the 169-cell p106 rectifier loop.

On September 24, 2023, Carson Cheng found a period-2 traffic light catalyst consisting of a toad, a clock, and a transparent blinker, which iNoMed used to reduce the oscillator from 115 cells to 66.

Glider synthesis

A 60-glider synthesis for 115P106 was found by Chris857 on the day after its discovery[2] which was then improved to 58 gliders.[3] Chris857 also synthesized a smaller and cheaper variant that has two fumaroles at both ends;[4] they remove blinkers with their domino sparks, but increase the overall period to 106 × 5 = 530.

On September 25, 2023, Chris857 found a 33-glider synthesis of 66P106, which he quickly improved to 32 gliders.[5][6][7] KtT lowered the cost of 66P106 to 29 gliders on April 29, 2025.[8][9]
