:* In this case, the claim "a stabilized pattern is stable" needs substantiation and explanation in which specific sense each word is used. For a ''glossary page'' that attempts to explain meaning of potentially ambiguous words and phrases, much less is "clear" (as compared to a ''single-clearly-defined-subject article'' discussing a specific thing). Anyway, I did a rewrite based on the CGoLM&C book; further examples of usage can be found in the book by searching for "stability"/"stable"/"stabiliz". :* Please read my reply on the forum: [https://conwaylife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=149977#p149977 viewtopic.php?p=149977#p149977]. In particular, [https://conwaylife.com/w/index.php?title=User:Book/Sandbox&oldid=114142 your draft] currently has an italicized claim "''This supersedes the notion that stable=still life.''" I think this is an incorrect assumption. "Stable" used to mean "is a still life or composed of still lifes" is commonly used and cannot be "superseded". Please reconsider your attempt to redefine "stable". [[User:Confocal|Confocal]] ([[User talk:Confocal|talk]]) 02:18, 22 August 2022 (UTC) | |||

@Confocal: is a stabilized pattern stable? If so, the first line of your edited definition is incomplete. If not, then why is that terminology commonly used to describe a stabilized object? Book (talk) 20:12, 19 August 2022 (UTC)
- Before my edits, the page stated "A pattern becomes stable at time T if it conforms to the above definition at time T." and linked to a post which did not contain "becomes stable" or "become stable". Given that this glossary page seems to be an attempt to provide a well-thought-out definition of at least some of these words, I think it is not appropriate to refer to a post that does not actually support the claim in a close-to-literal way. Note also that I added the stub template, because I do not think the page provides a well-thought-out readable explanation as it stands (neither before, nor after my changes). - In my opinion, you disimproved the definition. Clearly a stabilized pattern is stable and dvgrn's post to me supports the definition. Book (talk) 23:06, 19 August 2022 (UTC)
- In this case, the claim "a stabilized pattern is stable" needs substantiation and explanation in which specific sense each word is used. For a glossary page that attempts to explain meaning of potentially ambiguous words and phrases, much less is "clear" (as compared to a single-clearly-defined-subject article discussing a specific thing). Anyway, I did a rewrite based on the CGoLM&C book; further examples of usage can be found in the book by searching for "stability"/"stable"/"stabiliz". Confocal (talk) 04:33, 20 August 2022 (UTC)

- Please read my reply on the forum: viewtopic.php?p=149977#p149977. In particular, your draft currently has an italicized claim "This supersedes the notion that stable=still life."
