This is my first post here, but it seemed appropriate. I enjoyed playing with the Game of Life in my younger years and hold dear to me William Poundstone's 'The Recursive Universe'. Having said all of this, I haven't played with the GoL for nearly 20 years.
Then, today I was reading an article on the Guardian on the 10 Best Movie Credit Sequences and watched number 4, the opening for Dr. No, the first James Bond movie. I have no idea why, but at precisely 1 minute into the credits I spotted a Game of Life glider. I had to look online to confirm it, but it's definitely there, and 8 years prior to the GoF being created. Can this be the earliest pop-culture instance of a major GoL object?
Anyway, I thought people here may enjoy the discovery.

Gliders - and James Bond
Re: Gliders - and James Bond
Well, there are only so many small arrangements of items on a rectangular grid one can go thru before accidentally stumbling on a glider *shape*… probably far earlier examples could be found (early Islamic art might be one place to look).
Nice catch, anyway.
