New Youtube video of Gemini

Post by Suphysis »

Hello all,

I'm a GOL enthusiast and new to these forums. I have uploaded a new HD video (with CA-generated music) on Gemini to Youtube. Hope you enjoy it.

Nice video. This is first time when I clearly see how Gemini travels. How you made such video?
First question ever. Often referred to as The Question. When this question is asked in right place in right time, no one can lie. No one can abstain. But when The Question is asked, silence will fall. Silence must fall. The Question is: Doctor Who?

Well done, how much time did you have to run it to make the video?

Glad you like it! I ran it for about 168M generations. It actually didn't take that long (about 4-5h). Unfortunately, the hashlife algorithm in Golly only allows a maximum of 4GB of memory allocation, and my machine has 16GB. I couldn't go further because of this. Is there a 64bit compile so it can use more memory?

If you use Windows then please try this build (thanks to Tim Hutton) and let me know how it goes:

http://www.trevorrow.com/golly/golly-2.3-win-x64.zip

Note that if you want to run Python/Perl scripts with this build then you'll need to install 64-bit versions of Python/Perl.

Yes, if you use Mac OS 10.6 or 10.7 then download golly-2.3-mac.zip from sourceforge:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/golly/f ... golly-2.3/

If you use 10.4 or 10.5 then you'll have to use the 32-bit Golly in golly-2.3-mac104.zip.

Slightly off topic, but… what exactly is "rule 110-generated music"?
