Does Conway's Game of Life has a license?

I would like to create a variation on the game, is it under some license? can I just create the game or do I have to add any notices?
The goal is to create something commercial for iOS.

No. Just don't call it "The Game of Life" because there is a commercial board game with that name.
Use Glu or Glui to explore CA rules on non-periodic tilings: DominoLife and HatLife and SpectreLife
