New Agar on T16

I wanted to share something cool with all of you:

These are comments by Mark Kriegsman under one of my videos (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1AAYNnk ... _CgttoSWiu) about our search for long-lived patterns on the 16x16 torus.

It was a member of this forum, PK22 if memory serves, who identified the class of ultra long-lived patterns (5,000+ unique generations) as a previously unknown Agar with periodity p314.

Well, this has now piqued the interest of Mark Kriegsman - for those of you who don't know him: He's a lead engineer from Boston and driving force behind the FastLED algorithm. And he's interested in these patterns for an LED art installation he's working on.

So, I wanted to let you know what a privilege it is to be part of a community like this forum!

I don’t think it was PK22. Hopefully, I’ll be able to find a 5000-tick soup with my CUDA searcher now I have a computer with a GPU.

It was this post in the "Hashwar" thread where the new Agar was first identified:

They are rare, but not that much.
For example, with "TorusLifeCL16 cpu 75" command, my 12 year old CPU was able to find it in 6 minutes, after 54842128 attempts:

Code: Select all

#C lifespan: 104, period: 5024, final_pop: 16
#C seed: 1786715906551764, stream: 54842128
x = 16, y = 16, rule = B3/S23:T16,16
