Search programs on iOS

It’s possible to compile and run search programs on iPhone and iPad using the iSH terminal. It is essentially Alpine Linux, so C and C++ code can be compiled in the same way as on a regular Linux machine. For example, to run qfind, install the compiler by running

Code: Select all

apk add gcc
, then downloading the qfind folder from Github and moving into iSH’s “root” folder, the. running:

Code: Select all

cd qfind
make
This compiles the code, and the search program can be accessed by typing “./qfind”
This method can be used for other search programs, but lifelib-based programs, like apgsearch, don’t work because lifelib needs a x86-64 processor to run. An Android equivalent probably exists, but I haven't found one.

I found another iOS command-line program called "a-Shell", which runs a lot faster than iSH, but isn't as versatile.
