OCA Discovery of the Year 2025 Nominations
Posted: December 31st, 2025, 10:32 am
by islptng
(Well, It's already 2026 in some place, so I posted this thread.)
Rules from
this 2018 thread apply. In essence: nominations should be interesting and nontrivial, and they should be from the 2025 calendar year (UTC).
Nominations will close when the voting thread is created, which won't happen until June 1st, 2026 at earliest.
It would be appreciated if you include a short description for each of your nominations to explain why they may be interesting to others.

Two of your years seem to be off by one. I assume the discoveries need to be from 2025 and voting will start in 2026?
Unrelated, but I also think 5 months is way too long of a wait; people will forget what happened in 2025.

Thanks, at the time between 2 year, I always get confused. I think i fixed that.

Last year's voting starts also on June, so why too long?
Anyway, to keep it ontopic, here's nominations' names that's made by myself:
- HexaSmodel rule: first infinite nested SMOSMOS...MOS on a hexagonal grid in 32 states
- TNT: first OCA recreation of APGsembly and a lot of other things engineered
- ugh i can't remember more...

islptng’s 256c/544330d geminoid in T and Tub, along with 128c/28024o orthogonoid. (First nomination I’ve done, so might have got things wrong). Link:

TTs, a Turing-Complete margolus supporting 2TFL rule with known p3, p5, p7, p8, and p11 reflectors of the 'T' spaceship. The most recent version of the full stamp collection can be found at
User:PK22/OCA:Travelling Ts/Full Stamp Collection This is outdated. 2 important things it does not include are
the 3c/8 distaff and
the most recent version of the quadratic growth pattern. I will try to make the collection before OCA DOTY 2025 voting.

I nominate my other SMOSMOSMOSes:

These should be added to the nomination of the first SMOSMOSMOS.

Nominating my OCA rule Checkerboard, Day and Night, with the initial post on Jan 8:

I have recently been experimenting with rules that are not only self-complimentary, behaving the same way in both black and white universes, but also checkerboard-complimentary, meaning they also behave the same in a checkerboarded universe. Here is a sample soup of the rule:
Code:
Select all
#R B2en3cin4aciknqt5eny6ikn78/S2-ikn3-eny4cjnqyz5-cin6-en78
!
# [[ RANDOMIZE ]]
[...]
The thread for exploration of that rule is at
viewtopic.php?f=11&t=7050. I have used the p34 to construct technologies such as splitters and NAND gates.
This rule is interesting because all patterns behave the same way when XOR pasted onto a checkerboard agar.

Is the voting going to start soon?
Nobody has made any nominations for a while, so if you want your pattern to be the OCA discovery of the year, you should do it now!

I will try to make some time to review the and finalize the list over the weekend, but just from a precursory glance I can see a few errors/obvious things that can be improved
There are 2 big errors:
The nomination list is still missing #9.
Katrina has her name misspelled as Kathina. Additionally the link leads to this thread not her post
Some things that should really be fixed :
nomination 16 has "and others the list missed"
I like the formatting here better "(Yujh, NimbleRogue, vilc, WhiteHawk, unix with clock, R2INT, FWKnightship, b-engine, et al.)" Additionally we could just put in less names/ narrow the nomination.
The nomination is also way to long without providing meaningful information for the nomination. I would say that if we want to talk
Nomination 2 should also have its attributions cleared up
Nominations 4 and 13 are too similar. I would vote that they either be merged into one, or at least we say something more about the SMOSMOSMOS by splitterrules other than just "another 54 SMOSMOSMOS"

I doubt it's still open, given it started and stopped once, but if it is, I'd like to nominate my proof that phoenix spaceships without B012a can't reach the speed limit.
